THANE: A doctor from Bhiwandi was arrested on charges of murdering his wife on Sunday. The offence was registered after the police exhumed the woman’s body almost five days after she was allegedly killed by her husband.Dr Niyaz Ansari (48), who practises Unani medicine in Nizampur area, is a divorcee. He had married Firoza (45) in 2005 after she divorced her first husband who is a hotelier in Bhiwandi.
Incidentally, her son from her first husband, Jait, is the complainant in the case. He had suspected foul play in his mother’s death and claimed that it was not a natural death. The police had then swung into action and interrogated the doctor who showed them the place in Panjarpoli cemetery where he had buried his wife. The murder, according to the police, had taken place on September 5 and the body was exhumed on Sept 11.
The body was sent for a post-mortem following which it was established that the woman had not died under natural circumstances. The doctor was arrested and has now been remanded to police custody.The police, during the course of investigation, found that the doctor’s first wife had committed suicide. He had two children from his first marriage, both of whom are staying with the parents of the accused.The doctor had come into contact with Firoza in 2002. She had got a divorce from her husband and was staying separately. Her two children, now in their teens, however, continued to stay with their father.The police have also gathered information from the neighbours about the relationship between the couple which ultimately led to the murder.
